As an certified League Cycling Instructor, Cynthia has conducted over hundreds of hours of bicycle safety instruction since 2011. Classes and private lessons are available. Course work includes in-classroom instruction to on-bike skills training including on-street practice.
Learn-to-Ride Lessons - Private lessons are available for children and adults. Most students learn to ride a bike in two hours.
Traffic Skills 101 - This class teaches emergency maneuvers, roadway safety skills and more.
Bike Rodeos - Bicycle rodeos are a fun way to introduce children to bicycle safety skills. Bicycle Rodeos are usually for the age group of 4–16 years old. A typical bicycle rodeo has seven to eight different stations set-up in a chalk course that the students ride through.
Bicycle Planning & Safety Planning
Bike Decatur Plan, Safe Routes to School, Decatur, Illinois Bike Decatur is the Decatur Region's first regionwide bicycling effort since 1996. This plan will outline the long-range vision, goals, policies, and recommendations for bikeways, encouragement programs, and safety education programs. The plan will also clarify, align, and fill gaps between the many various community and agency initiatives in and around the City of Decatur.
Iowa City Bicycle Master Plan, Iowa The Iowa City Bicycle Master Plan envisions Iowa City as a community where people of all ages and abilities have access to a comfortable, safe, and connected network of bicycle facilities, and where bicycling is an integral part of daily life and culture, creating affordable access to recreation, jobs, schools, and other essential activities. Cynthia served as the project manager, on behalf of Alta Planning + Design, for this this ten month project. The final draft of the Iowa City Bicycle Master Plan was adopted by the Iowa City City Council on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017.
Elgin-O’Hare Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan, IL The Elgin-O’Hare Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan will improve multimodal access along and across the new Elgin-O’Hare Expressway. Ten communities, two counties, the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), and numerous other agencies are planning solutions to improve on-street and off-street transportation options across the 70-square-mile area, including improved access to Metra train stations and Pace bus stops. Cynthia served as the project manager for Alta Planning + Design.
Street Safety Education Initiative, Wichita, KS Cynthia served as the Project Manager, for Alta Planning + Design, to develop a safety campaign and training that educated road users about safe travel related to bicycle and motor vehicle interactions. The team prepared a street safety outreach strategy and marketing plan, developed course material for the Wichita Police Department to educate officers about required and recommended behaviors for all roadway users, and provided training for Wichita residents to become League of American Bicyclists Certified Instructors (LCI).
